BUCAT

Support your Christian Union

The Birmingham University Christian Alumni Trust exists to support the Christian Unions in Birmingham.

Our Mission –

At Birmingham University Christian Alumni Trust, we recognise and value the work of Christian Unions (CU) in providing students in Birmingham with opportunities to hear, learn, and respond to the Christian faith. We are committed to supporting this mission by gathering donations through our network of alumni, which are then passed on to the CU, ensuring they have the resources needed to continue their impactful work. We are currently in the process of setting up; when we are a registered charity, we will be able to claim Gift Aid, maximizing the contributions we receive and further supporting the CU’s mission.

How to give –

Who we are –

We are a group of alumni who care deeply about the work of the CU and seeing the gospel shared on our campus. We started BUCAT to enable those who have left to continue to support and give something back to the CU.

About us –

Callum Nicolson

Callum was an active member of CU throughout his studies from 2019 to 2024. He initially took an interest in water bottling as a fresher and later served as Outreach Coordinator from 2021 to 2022, where he helped re-launch events after COVID, including the ‘FREE’ Events Week. Callum also launched the first ‘Food for Thought’ and coined its name.

Lucy Kitchin

Lucy joined CU in 2020. Her passion for numbers led her to serve as Treasurer from 2022 to 2023, managing the CU’s finances. During her time as Treasurer, Lucy explored the idea of establishing an Alumni Trust for the CU, playing a key role in shaping the charity’s development. She now works for her church in Admin, Operations & Events.

Hannah Blakiston

Hannah was actively involved in the University of Birmingham Christian Union from 2019-2023, serving as International Secretary in 2021/2022. After stepping down, she continued to support the CU’s mission, including helping to coordinate the 2023 Events Week, Home. Hannah now works in project management within the NHS.

Sam Haynes

Sam joined the CU in 2021 and was involved in lots of different teams throughout his 3 years there, including as Vice-Chair in 2023/2024. In 2024-2025, Sam continued to support the CU as a Relay Worker with UCCF before starting working for a local church as their Evangelism and Discipleship Assistant in August 2025.
